Our friendship began back in 1978 when we started grade one together. Four decades of life experience has seen many changes in our worlds, but our friendship has stood the test of time. From a young age, we shared a passion for travel and creating unique spaces, so after careers in flipping homes; property styling, staging and renovation projects, the stars aligned in 2018 and Common Thread Style was born.
Constantly on the hunt for beautiful and unique furniture, art and homewares, Common Thread Style is an online market where people can shop for items, new and old, that we have handpicked on our travels near and far.
When we travel we are reminded of our interconnectedness, how rich with culture and history the world is, and we begin to understand ourselves through the lifestyles and traditions of others. Our hearts continue to be drawn to the stories recounted by artisans and craftsmen around the world giving us insights into their creative process. Stories held inside beautiful objects are like a little window into a place and moment in time, imbued with the promise of our ever-evolving world.
Based in Los Angeles for 18 years, Kimberley embraced both her passion for acting and interior design. When friends in the real estate industry urged her to start her own Property/Staging business in 2013, her sense of style was very well received in this competitive arena, most homes selling after their first open house. She worked on many projects, flipping homes in the lucrative LA market and sourcing unique pieces for her celebrity clientele. In 2016 Kimberley was invited to style homes on camera for the successful Restored show on HGTV.
She loves hitting markets and estate sales to hunt for unusual items and is passionate about colourful tiles and beautiful light fixtures. Kimberley has also worked extensively in the TV industry, notably in her roles on Cold Feet (UK) and Lost (USA) as well as numerous Australian productions such as Gladiator, Home & Away and Paradise Beach. Her last project was directing and producing The Polygon documentary; a moving story highlighting the atrocities of Soviet nuclear testing on the people of Kazakhstan.
After completing her Law Degree and Articles of Clerkship, Georgina realised that her love of studying law was very different from the realities of practising. From there she had a successful career in Recruitment, working with some of Australia's largest firms. Overseeing the full recruitment process she gained valuable insight into managing projects but Georgina still felt a desire to find a creative outlet. It was during the sale process of her home that a Real Estate Agent urged her to consider Property Styling.
Once getting through the critical years of raising her children she seized the opportunity to work at the iconic Magnolia Interiors, in Brisbane. With her impeccable sense of style and a keen eye for detail, she excelled playing on her strengths to create cohesive spaces. Georgina loves the process of sourcing unique items and unearthing the stories attached to each find. She still gets a thrill seeing clients react to a special piece she has found. Mood boards, furniture choices and fabric selections are the things that make her heart sing!
