Kombucha is an ancient fermented probiotic beverage that is believed to have originated in Asia thousands of years ago and is now widely used due to its amazing health properties. The Kombucha drink is fermented by using a 'SCOBY' along with your choice of sweet tea.
The Kombucha 'SCOBY' is a Symbiotic Culture Of friendly Bacteria and Yeast and can also be referred to as the 'mushroom' due to its fungus-like appearance. It is the living culture in this probiotic drink that promotes a healthy gut by restoring good bacteria.
The jars are individually handmade on the potter's wheel from Australian sourced organic stoneware clay. Each jar is hand-decorated and glazed with non-toxic, lead-free glazes and fired in a kiln to 1280 degrees Celsius. At this temperature, the clay becomes vitrified and is turned to stone and the glaze turns to glass, making the jar unable to hold or leach any impurities. Stoneware does not allow sunlight to penetrate and therefore does not need to be kept away from direct sunlight.
The Kombucha jars come with a BPA free plastic tap and handmade fitted cotton cover. Plastic taps are recommended, as metals can react with the brew. Jars do not have lids as the brew needs to 'breathe' in order to ferment. A cotton cloth is a natural way to allow this, whilst keeping the Kombucha covered. The tap allows you access to Kombucha during the fermentation process.
